The Challenge of Belonging and Accountability

Many organisations invest heavily in performance, strategy, and outcomes. However, they often overlook one of the most powerful drivers of long-term success: belonging. When people feel disconnected, unheard, unsafe, or unable to contribute authentically, engagement drops, communication suffers, and culture becomes increasingly difficult to sustain. At the same time, belonging without clear expectations can create confusion, inconsistency, and a lack of accountability. Belonging With Backbone™ exists to address both sides of this challenge.

The Approach

It helps organisations, teams, communities, and leadership groups create environments where people feel genuinely connected and supported while also maintaining clear standards, shared responsibility, and healthy accountability. This work is built on the belief that strong cultures require both warmth and structure. People need to feel welcomed, valued, and respected, but they also need clarity about expectations, boundaries, responsibilities, and how they contribute to the wider community.

Methodology

This work is built on the belief that strong cultures require both warmth and structure. People need to feel welcomed, valued, and respected, but they also need clarity about expectations, boundaries, responsibilities, and how they contribute to the wider community. Using principles from the Campfire Method™, Belonging With Backbone™ helps organisations strengthen connection, improve communication, increase participation, and create cultures where people can bring more of themselves to their work without losing sight of collective goals..

Areas of Support

This work supports organisations in multiple ways, including culture development, leadership development, community design, team communication, facilitation, group development, and the embedding of values and standards. It involves creating environments where people feel psychologically safe, connected to a shared purpose, and able to contribute meaningfully. Leaders are supported in building trust, navigating difficult conversations, strengthening communication, and establishing cultures that support both people and performance. Organisations and communities benefit from the development of stronger participation, belonging, and engagement, as well as improved listening, collaboration, and the ability to navigate differences. Through the design and facilitation of conversations, workshops, retreats, and other experiences, this work helps strengthen relationships, build understanding, and promote collective problem-solving. Ultimately, the goal is to help organisations move beyond aspirational values by embedding practical behaviours, clear expectations, and accountability into everyday culture.

Expected Outcomes

Organisations engaging with Belonging With Backbone™ often experience stronger trust across teams and communities, improved communication and collaboration, increased engagement and participation, greater psychological safety, healthier approaches to conflict and disagreement, stronger leadership capability, clearer cultural expectations and standards, improved retention and community cohesion, and greater alignment between values and behaviour.

Ways to Engage

Belonging With Backbone™ is rooted in the principle that meaningful impact comes from understanding and addressing each organisation’s unique context. Flexibility and accessibility are at the heart of every engagement: we take into account who is funding the work, financial circumstances, and budgetary constraints to ensure our approach is inclusive and sustainable. Whether supporting community initiatives or working with well-resourced organisations, our commitment is to make participation accessible for all, with contributions scaled to reflect available resources. This enables us to fund sessions and support for those who might not otherwise have access, upholding our core purpose of fostering belonging with integrity and backbone. Belonging With Backbone™ is designed to be flexible and tailored to each organisation's needs. Engagements typically range from £1,500 to £25,000+, depending on the scope, duration, and level of support required.
